YOU DON’T CHOOSE YOUR FAMILY,THEY ARE GOD’S GIFT FOR YOU TO THEN “DESMOND TUTU” These pages are dedicated to my dear parents,my beautiful daughter Irene, her husband Ben Gasser, our gorges grandchildren: Gabby, Sarah, Robert and Elliott Gasser. I also included my sister's family and my wife's family. The Friedman and Roitman families settled in Bessarabia in a small shtatle Rezina on the right side of the river bank Dnestr in the early 1800. My father Motl (Mordko) owned a country store, that specialized in grain products and flour, sold to the bakeries and individuals. My mother Gitle Friedman (maiden name Roitman) helped in the store and did bookkeeping. They were fluent in Yiddish, Romenian, Hebrew and Russian speaking, writing and reading. They new each other from the heyder ( kindergarten ) and later friendship grew into love. That was the first and the last love. They were married in October 30 1928, after my father was discharged from Romanian Army. When Germany attacked Russia in June 22,1941 we run to save our lives, using any possible transportation. We were lucky to bored flatbed car on a train, which headed East. During this trip, many people fell from the flatbed car, also German airplanes flew weary low, so you could see the faces and bombarded the train and shat the people with machine guns. Many people were killed, many disappeared: mothers, brothers, children were killed and separated for ever. After a long and frightful drive, we ended up in one kolkhoz in Rostov oblast (guberniya). When the Germans came close to city Rostov, kolkhoz gave us a wagon with two oxen, and we went farther East until we reached Stalingrad ( approximately 250 ml.) We moved through the fields and we could frequently hear whistles of shrapnel's, explosion of shells and bombs. The battles between Russian and German Army. The front was usually 2-3 miles between us . At that time the battle for Stalingrad already started. We gut lucky to catch a train headed to Uzbekistan, where we settled in a small town Begovat until 1944. My father at that time was working in Siberia in a plant, which produced bombs. In 1944 he was transferred to Uzbekistan, Where we met him . Than we returned to Rezina. Everything was destroyed, but we were happy to be at home. All houses were in ruins. I think we were the last generation, who lived in small Yiddish shtatale, and our childhood was miserable, cold and starving. The Russian called this war “ Grand Patriotic War” and every one was singing the “Sacred war “ song. My wife’s father was missing in action. They lived in Crimea. Anna’s mother took Anna , her younger sister Sophiya heading to the East using every possible transportation At the end of this terrible trip they ended up in Kazakhstan. Later they found that all mishpocha were killed in Khmelnik, Ukraine. (mothers parents, two sisters , uncles and all(Children). After the WW2 they returned to Khmelnik Anna graduated from High School and move to Kishinev where she graduated from Institute as a teacher of liberal Arts, Russian literature and Grammar. Later her mother and Sofa joint Anna. Here I met Anna and in June 16,1962 we married. She was working in very prestige school. I graduate from Agriculture institute in Kishinev with a master degree in tractors, automobiles ang agriculture machinery. We received visas from my first casein, witch lived in Israel February 1979.In October 30,1979 we left Russia and arrived in Vienna,Austria, were we decide to move to America. We had to move to Rome, Italy and visited the American Consulate an gut permission to go to USA,Kansas City state of Kansas. We arrived in Rome November 17,1979 an staid until January 17,1980.January 18,1980we arrived to Kansas city. Here we started a NEW LIFE:my mother,Anna,Ira and I(Boris Fridman).Ira graduate form High School and later from UMKC as a clinical pharmacist. She married Ben Gasser and have four beautiful children:Gabby,Sarah,Robert and Elliott. At June 5,1985 we stood solemnly and repeated the oath of allegiance to the United States. This was one of the happiest day in outer lives. At this day I changed my name from:Boris Fridman to Boris Mark Friedman and Anna changed her name from:Anna Fidman to Anna Ryabtceva Friedman.Ira Fridman changed her name to Irene Becka Friedman. My Mather didn’t changed her first and last name The evacuation of Jewish people was typical : all of them try to escape to the East or the South East and Siberia. Many Jewish people were killed by the Nazis in Ghetto’s and concentration camps. In the WW2 six millions Jewish people were killed by the Nazis. This was the Holocaust. Long live all men and women, who fight so hard in this war ! ! It’s not just Russia victory, the was Soviet Union and the people from all the regents of the Soviet Union, USA, United Kingdom and other countries were fighting against fascism. I strive for accuracy, but I cannot guaranty this information is correct or complete. I certantly cannot take credit for all research reflected here. I’ve had help from close relatives . A special thank you goes to Mauricio. Some of them emigrated to Israel. Argentina, USA, Canada, Germany and other places. We were scattered far and wide. Our ancestors were wealthy, poor, solders, merchants. They were all of these things, all uniqueness in their own right and I am proud to be part of it.
